T-Works - India’s largest prototyping facility had launched a summer camp to leverage its machining prowess to excite lay people with workshops related to making and building. With the onset of this, there were over 200 children ages 6 to 18 spending the day attending workshops at the facility.
This presented a huge opportunity to create and sell original products in T-Works. However, unlike most brands where the customer must pick a product from the shelf, T-Works could offer a unique window to interact with one’s products by allowing lay-people to participate in the creation and customization of their products.
Youler is one such product series that was developed with an aim to allow school going children to customize their stationary after experiencing its fabrication in real time.
Its modular system affords slots where the users can spell out their names or place charms. The assembly station at T-Works would feature a pit of pre-cut and engraved tiles with letters and icons from which the users can find the ones they want in their ruler. Apart from this aspect of customisation, Youler offers an active element of fun in the form of a spur gear train. This ensures constant fidgety fun and makes it stand out amongst a sea of static stationary.
