Prototype v1.0
Nida was conceived as a Telangana centric souvenir for T-Works - India's largest prototyping facility. Located in Hyderabad, the hi-tech capital of Telangana, T-Works boasts of cutting edge machinery armed for prototyping products across a variety of materials.
Being an office of state importance, T-Works would frequently welcome dignitaries from various Indian states as well as foreign nations. Thus we discerned that having a souvenir that speaks about the culture of the state of Telangana while showcasing T-Works' fabrication prowess was essential to communicate it's ethos and capabilities to the outside world.
Cheriyal scroll paintings are an indigenous art form native to Telangana. They are characterized by their bold black outlines, flat application of vibrant stone-pigment based colors and absence of visual depth. They usually feature depictions of rural farm life or gods and goddesses starring in scenes from Indian mythology and folklore, painted against a striking red background within an ornate hand painted border.
Nida houses itself in a similar earthy red frame, laser engraved with depictions of nature within an ornate border. On the inside, the reader is first welcomed with a letter on the left, signed by the presenter along with a QR code that leads to the documentation of the process. On the right lies the book itself, featuring the name of the recipient laser engraved in the center, making each unit just as unique as the artwork inside of it.
'Nida' (NEE-da) translates to 'Shade' in Telugu, and true to its name, the calming warm glow through the hand painted Cheriyal scroll is sure to provide a sense of reprieve from one's daily doings.
